According to the rankings, Tokyo is the best city for students who don't want to live in a "student bubble". Despite having 10 universities in the QS World University Rankings, it has one of the lowest fraction of students compared to its population.

This city is known as 'The Athens of America', in part due to its cluster of historic universities. But despite the fact that the greater Boston area is home to MIT and Harvard, the high tuition fees bring Boston's overall score down.

Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated cities in the world, both in terms of people and high ranking universities, which includes HKUST, HKU and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. While rents are quite high, eating out and transport are quite cheap.

Sydney retains its position as 4th best student city in the world. It has five institutions in the QS world rankings and a diverse student community. The University of Sydney currently sits in 37th position and the University of New South Wales in 48th.

Melbourne has gained three positions in this year’s ranking, becoming the top student city in Australia. The University of Melbourne is currently 33rd in the world according to the QS rankings. However, the high international tuition fees and living costs shift the overall score down.

Being at the top for the third year in a row, Paris has 17 universities listed in the world rankings, including Sciences Po, ENS Paris, Ecole Polytechnique and the Sorbonne. While some may argue that Paris is an expensive city, the low tuition fees make up for it.
