THE WORLD AT YOUR FINGERTIPS

Agriculture still plays a major role in Colombian economy, employing nearly 20% of the workforce. Main exports include coffee (4th largest producer in the world), bananas, cut flowers, and sugarcane. In the back, two farmers look after their orange crops in the rugged mountains of Antioquia's province. #Colombia #agriculture #Andes #mountains #nature Macarenia clavigera- that's the scientific name for this extraordinary plant that thrives at the bed of Cano Cristales River, in the Andean province of Meta, Colombia. This particular species is local to the area. Depending on the level of the water and the amount of sunlight these plants receive, they change and reflect different tones of red, yellow and green, displaying a mesmerizing view to the eyes. Until recently, Cano Cristales was merely a destination one could dream of going: militia groups controlling the area made the visit an extremely dangerous endeavor. Today, with improved security and de-militarization of the region, nature enthusiasts are drawn by the wonders of this truly extraordinary view. #colombia #nature #history #flowers #colors #environment #peace #LatinAmerica Photo credit: Miguel Escobar Just another day in the streets of Cartagena's old historic square. Horses and carriages mesh with cars every day, freezing time inside the walls of the old Cartagena. Under Spanish rule, the city's strategic location and access to the Caribbean Sea made it a target of many attacks, especially by English vessels seeking dominance in the region. In 1586, Sir Francis Drake, one of the most renowned seamen of the Elizabethan Era, seized the city for six weeks. During this time, he threatened to destroy the city's infrastructure unless he received ransom. After nearly destroying the Cathedral of Cartagena (in the back), he continued his attacks on Spanish colonies, returning to England to be appointed vice admiral of the English Navy. #Cartagena #Cathedral #Colombia #travel #history #magicalrealism An ascent through a 740-flight of stairs on the north side of Guatape Rock formation will reveal this breathtaking view of the Colombian Andean region. Located an hour away from Medellin, Colombia, the Rock of Guatape ("El Peñon de Guatape" in Spanish) became a a frequent destination for tourists after it was climbed in 1954 for the first time. This gigantic monolith protrudes almost 1,000 feet from the ground, its summit reaching an elevation of 7,000 feet above sea level. Therefore, patience and some water are necessary to reach the top! #Colombia #magicalrealism #sightseeing #guatape #colombiaespasion After more than one year of refurbishment work, assessed for 1.5 millions euros, Place Vendôme - the heart of Paris - sees again its little Napoleon and its column. It was built by Napoleon in 1810 to commemorate the french victory at Austerlitz (against the Russians). The 43-meters high column is made with 497 bronze-squared all issued from the canons of the Napoleon’s army. Hidden from the public and the inhabitant of Paris since July 2014, its tarp is little to little going town starting with the statue of its emperor “Napoleon the Great.” #paris #napoleon #placevendome “Saucisson de Lyon” is the most unusual sausage that takes the name of the region where it is made. Saucisson de Lyon is a large sausage made from minced beef and diced bacon. Lyon kept its name of capital of the sausage, after failing to keep its position of capital of France. You may eat this sausage cooked, filled with chopped pistachio, joined with potatoes on the side and topped with butter to give the flavor some edge. The sausage of Lyon is one of the most famous meal you can meet crossing the French town of Lyon. #CapitaldesGaulles #France #saucisson #frenchcuisine Photo Credit : Leon Fargues Here welcome to the former capital of France. Lyon, in south-eastern France, can be as hot as cold considering the season. Whatever the weather, it still a beautiful city dominated by a beautiful church, Fourviere, that u can see at the top of the hill (top of the photo). #Lyon #France #Fourviere #Rhone #CapitaldesGaulles Photo credit: Arnaud Sornin
