Fight against cancer honored in world day of Feb. 4

World Cancer Day is an initiative which brings together the entire world in the fight against the cancer. It takes place every year on Feb. 4.

This day was founded by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to support the goals of the World Cancer Declaration which was written in 2008.

The primary goal of World Cancer Day is to significantly reduce illness and death caused by cancer by the year 2020, by raising awareness and insisting governments across the world to take action against the disease.

The UICC continues to expand on the success and impact of the day, ensuring that the annual event is seen and heard by more and more people around the world. They do this by working directly to develop a campaign that serves various organization’s priorities.

To encourage individuals, as well as organizations and corporations, to celebrate World Cancer Day, the UICC has launched a social media campaign to raise awareness with the campaign phrase, "We can. I can."

The union gave people the chance to be featured on the World Cancer Day official website by asking them to write a supportive message and share it on their social media pages.

The campaign supports the notion that either as a collective or as individuals, everyone can do their part to reduce the global burden of cancer.
