But what first started as a hopeful, change-driving online presence transformed into a polarized mess. In this TED talk, Ghonim discusses the role Internet had to play in both the rise and fall of the Arab Spring in his country.

He also highlights the main challenges facing social media today and proposes ways to redesign an online presence that leads to civilized and sustainable change.
