3 key things every freelancer should do
Do you want to become a freelancer but you don't know how or where to begin?
We researched what some of today's most successful freelancers have done at the beginning of their journey to success and what they had to say about it. We're sharing here their top advice on how they managed to succeed to help you get off to a good start.
1. Socialize and build a strong network. Save the dates of conferences, workshops and social events and add them to your calendar right now! This is the best way to meet people who appreciate the value of your skills and may possibly need them. This will not only help you to enlarge your contact list but may also be a great opportunity to establish yourself as an expert in your field.
You can also build a positive reputation by giving speeches and running workshops on topics you know well.
2. Go online and brand yourself. Most connections are now made on social media. This is the easiest yet most efficient tool available. Social media can connect you to potential clients and partners all over the world.
Also, experts believe that you're only as good as your resume, work examples, and references. So you should "focus on accomplishments rather than duties or responsibilities," career expert, Alison Doyle, wrote on About.com. "A list of what you did isn't going to help you get interviews. What you achieved will."
3. Organize your work and plan your day. Even though you have all the ideas and information you need for work in your head, you should still write down everything, which will improve your productivity on a daily basis. Also, having a good business plan to show will make it easier for you to connect with potential business partners or investors.
