TED: Why architects need to use their ears

Sound expert Julian Treasure believes that it's time to start designing buildings for our ears, because the classic architecture hasn't been helpful.

Treasure explains about designing "not appearance but experience," because sounds constantly affect us physiologically, psychologically, cognitively and behaviorally.

"We're designing environments that make us crazy," Treasure said. "And it's not just our quality of life which suffers. It's our health, our social behavior and our productivity as well."

His TED talk was viewed at least a million times.
