If you drink coffee to boost your energy, to increase your productivity or to maximize your focus, it is good to know some basic information about it. Being a smart coffee drinker goes beyond picking the best coffee brand or coffee shop.
It is important to know that as humans our body produces a hormone called cortisol, making us feel alert and focused. When people are awake, cortisol levels are variable throughout the day. Therefore, the best time to drink coffee is when the cortisol level is down, and that is not before 10 a.m.
Increasing one’s caffeine intake, however, can also push the benefits of caffeine too far. A high consumption of coffee per day, can lead to restlessness, insomnia and irritability.
If you drink coffee and still feel sleepy, don’t worry. Take that nap, because when you wake up you will have that energy you wanted, as caffeine takes 20 to 30 minutes to take effect.
