An annual meeting of 195 countries joining to evaluate the process of dealing with climate change will take place in Paris in less than a month. The gathering, also known as the Conference of Parties, is this year in its 21st edition, thus the name COP21.
Organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the COP21 aims to assess the nations' progress in implementing ways to prevent climate change and set goals for diminishing greenhouse gas emissions, the primary drivers of climate change.
This year, the event is held mainly to focus on reaching a universal and legally binding agreement to keep global warming below the critical threshold of 2 degrees Celsius of warming.
